September Expos: Connecting People with Opportunities

Throughout September, Read Write Now participated in three community expos across Perth and the Peel region, connecting with job seekers, mature-age learners, students, career changers and culturally diverse communities.

These events provided an important platform to raise awareness of the free support available through Read Write Now while strengthening relationships with organisations that share our goal of helping people achieve their education, employment and personal development aspirations.

Why These Expos Matter

Community expos bring essential information, services and opportunities directly to the people who need them most. They help individuals:
  • Discover education, training and employment pathways
  • Connect directly with support services
  • Learn about programs they may not otherwise know exist
  • Build confidence to take the next step towards their goals

Across all three expos, a common theme emerged: many opportunities begin with strong foundation skills.
Whether someone was seeking employment, considering further study, adapting to life in Australia, or wanting greater confidence in everyday tasks, literacy and digital skills were often identified as important building blocks for success.

Strengthening Partnerships

The expos were also valuable for strengthening connections between community organisations, employment services, training providers and support agencies.

These partnerships help create stronger referral pathways, improve awareness of available services and ensure people can access the right support at the right time. By working together, organisations can better support individuals to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

Looking Ahead

We thank the organisers, exhibitors and community members involved in the Stirling Employment and Community Expo, Future Directions Expo Armadale and Mandurah Jobs & Careers Expo for creating welcoming spaces that foster learning, collaboration and opportunity.

Every conversation reinforced a simple but powerful message: Learning can open doors at any age, and strong community partnerships help make those opportunities accessible to everyone.
