TAFE courses are often practical and hands-on, but the reading, writing, maths and digital requirements can sometimes feel like a course of their own. You may be confident with the practical work but need extra help understanding assessment instructions, reading technical information, structuring written assignments, using online learning platforms or applying calculations and formulas.

This can be especially challenging if English is an additional language, you have been away from study for several years, or you learn more easily by doing than by reading from a textbook. Asking for support does not mean you are not capable. It can simply give you the tools and confidence to show what you already know.

Around 40% of Read Write Now adult learners are TAFE students, showing that many students benefit from extra support alongside their course.

Read Write Now provides free TAFE student support across Western Australia. Trained volunteer tutors offer practical, one-to-one assistance with literacy, numeracy, digital skills, academic writing, study skills, English language development and course-related maths.

Your tutoring is confidential and tailored to your course, learning goals and the areas where you need extra support.

A tutor will not complete your assessments for you. Instead, they will work alongside you to explain unfamiliar concepts, break tasks into manageable steps and help you become a more confident and independent learner.

Support is available face-to-face or online, making it easier to fit tutoring around your classes, work, apprenticeship and family commitments.
